WETHERBY 13:50 - Definitely Red 2pt Win @ 6.00, docdaneeeka
docdaneeeka was very confident in his selection, as you’d have to be to go for a 2 point win at odds which most people (myself included) would have gone the each-way route, but Definitely Red delivered and then some with a very impressive performance to beat a number of very good horses. He travelled nicely throughout the race to come from the rear of the field to take the lead as the race developed, before quickening readily to put seventh lengths between himself and the next best. 10 pts profit.
My horse to take from the race: DEFINITELY RED. He was rated 141 before the race and could rise to anything around 150, but for me that would be perfectly fair. He has made good horses look blunt, likely with some left in the tank, and it will be interesting to see where he goes next as he’s surely due a step up in class.
KEMPTON 14:05 - Churchtown Champ 0.75pt Each Way @ 19.00, docdaneeka
In what was a very, very messy race, Churchtown Champ made a mistake early on when ploughing through a fence and never seemed to travel after that. 0.75pt loss.
My horse to take from the race: MIGHT BITE. He was prominent throughout, helping to set an honest pace, and when other horses ridden with him began to fade away Might Bite found another gear and pulled clear in stunning fashion. He looked like he was going to win by 20 lengths before Daryl Jacob went far too hard into the final jump when the race was already won, causing the horse to hit the fence and fall horrifyingly. I’m not sure if anything can come of Jacob’s actions, but in Mick Fitzgerald’s words he “Went for a stride that wasn’t there” and I’m sure I’m not the only one who thought the horse was likely to be seriously injured. Luckily he got up and ran away and hopefully it doesn’t affect his confidence. He will improve at least a stone in the ratings for this race, and had he stayed on his feet I think it would have been even more impressive than Thistlecrack.
KEMPTON 14:40 - Yanworth 2pt Win @ 2.50, AirIndex
Even if Alan King didn’t seem too confident with the quick ground and drop in trip, the betting public was and supported Yanworth consistently until the off. His early jumping was a bit rusty, and he was the first of the leading trio off the bridle, but he stayed really well and eventually ground down The New One to win decisively. 3pt profit.
My horse to take from the race: CH’TIBELLO. Yanworth further enhanced his Champion Hurdle credentials, but I don’t think he has done anything we didn’t already know him to be capable of. Ch’Tibello, however, has quietly ran the best race of his career. He wasn’t quite up to this level, but watch where he goes next as he runs on any ground, could even improve for a step up in trip and it will be interesting to see how the handicapper treats him (anything below 155 and he’s laughing, in my opinion).
KEMPTON 15:15 - Thistlecrack 2 pt Win @ 2.37, smithmustscore
The question of Cue Card vs Thistlecrack was finally answered, and answered in emphatic fashion with the latter now having the honour of being the first novice ever to win the King George. Thistlecrack jumped unbelievably cavalier throughout, I think any other horse would have fallen at least a couple of times, and never looked even slightly out of place. Cue Card tried to challenge him approaching the final bend, but the so-called “novice” laughed in his face, quickened his stride and put lengths between them in a matter of seconds. What’s more, we didn’t even seem to get to the bottom of him. Absolutely stunning. 2.74pt win.
My horse to take from the race: TEA FOR TWO. He ran really well, even despite sweating beforehand. Depending on how you judge Thistlecrack he has ran roughly a stone better than his pre-race BHA rating.
CHEPSTOW 14:00 - Dino Velvet 1pt Each Way @ 17.00, Patch270
Dino Velvet looked perfectly settled before the race, so to see him trying to pull the arms off Wayne Hutchinson as soon as they were sent on their way really surprised me. He was far too keen throughout, possibly showing his inexperience, and his jumping wasn’t up to scratch. Alan King’s novices are going well at the moment though so it’s worth keeping an eye on what happens next with him. 1pt loss.
My horse to take from the race: DEFI DU SEUILL. Even despite his jumping in the final straight looking very nervy, he has blown them all away today and already looks an absolute star.
CHEPSTOW 14:40 - Viconte Du Noyer 1pt Each Way @ 26.00, docdaneeeka
Viconte Du Noyer was ridden in the middle of the pack throughout, but he couldn’t go with the pace when the race started to develop. His jumping wasn’t quite up to scratch, and it’s possible the ground came up a little too soft for him. 1 pt loss.
My horse to take from the race: RAZ DE MAREE. Okay, he was carrying the bottom weight in the race and having a further 3lbs taken off because of the apprentice on his back, but he flew home down the straight and at one point I honestly thought he was in with half a chance of catching Native River. It will be interesting to see how the handicapper treats him because he’s not a young horse by any means, but he looked in top form today and could still have another big race left in him.
CHEPSTOW 15:15 - Aso 3pt Win @ 2.75, docdaneeeka
docdaneeka told us to loads our cannons on Aso today, and he justified that confidence with a very impressive victory. He was always going nicely and, under a confident ride from Charlie Deutsch, duly delivered with a comfortable victory in company he had too much class for. 5.25pts profit.
My horse to take from the race: ASO. He has been on the up and up and up this season, running well to place in 2 Grade 3s at Cheltenham before today’s victory. He’s due another big race in graded company.
KEMPTON 15:30 - More Buck’s 1.5pt Win @ 6.00, smithmustscore
More Buck’s set off on a nice early pace, jumped well and looked to have plenty left in the tank cruising into the final straight before crashing into the 2nd last. He was flat after that, as he was perfectly entitled to be, and couldn’t stay on for place money. 1.5 pt loss.
My horse to take from the race: DOUBLE SHUFFLE. The first time hood and step up to 3 miles brought extra improvement from Double Shuffle. He did everything right today and won with some left in the tank. Keep an eye on where he goes next and how the handicapper treats him.
We hit the kind of purple patch we’ve been threatening to have for a few weeks, resulting in 14.99 pts profit on Monday and 1.75 pts profit on Tuesday, leaving us 13.84 pts up on 2016 at its end. This leaves us in a really solid position going into 2017, which hopefully we can build on. Thanks to all involved, and a big shoutout to docdaneeeka who gave us our two best winners over the festive period!

Tipster Club: Mon 26th Dec - Sign Ups

A slightly earlier upload than normal as the racing this week is on Monday, but I figured with Christmas we might need the extra day or so to study the form. I'll post the preview thread on Friday still.
I've listed the races from this Monday's Channel 4 card below. We will allocate them based on a "first come, first serve" basis. If anyone can think of a fairer way let me know. If we get more interest than the number of televised races we will look at other races for the users to analyse. If you want to include tips for other races, please feel free.
We had a disappointing week last time, but let's smash the last week of 2016 and hit 2017 running! Results so far can be viewed here.
Good luck, have fun and have a Merry Christmas!

Tipster Club: Sat 25th Feb 17 - Results

LINGFIELD 14:05 - PRETEND 2pt Win @ 2.50, AirIndex
Pretend blew the start and as a result blew the race. He made up some ground late on, but every yard counts in these races so giving away several lengths is often too big a deficit to recover as proved the case here. 2pt loss.
My horse to take from the race: PRETEND. He missed the break and didn’t look like getting into contention, but he still finished ‘only’ 2 lengths behind when having to go widest of all. A step back to 6 furlongs for the finals day might be better for him.
NEWCASTLE 14:45 - PORTRAIT KING 2pts Each Way @ 17.00, smithmustscore
To sum up our luck recently, Portrait King fell at the first. 2pt loss.
My horse to take from the race: KNOCKANRAWLEY. His second run after a lengthy lay-off, Kim Bailey’s entry posted a career best in defeat. He had every chance as the race developed, but his jumping let him down. He’s lightly raced despite being 9, and he should be winning soon.
KEMPTON 15:00 - ELGIN 1.5pt Win @ 4.00, docdaneeeka
Elgin ran a very nice ran in defeat, easily putting some useful novices behind him at a track which suits him. He looked to have every chance with the winner, despite conceding 3lbs, but mistakes 3 out and at the last cost him. 1.5pt loss.
My horse to take from the race: ELGIN. I’m a big fan of this horse. He always gets himself into the mix at the end and has been steadily improving all season. His was giving weight today and his jumping needs to be better. Flat tracks clearly suit him, so hopefully he skips Cheltenham and goes straight to Aintree.
LINGFIELD 15:15 - Battalion 2pts Each Way @ 7.00, AirIndex
Another shocking run in what I thought was the safest bet on the Saturday card. Battalion is a C&D specialist who has spent all season gearing towards this race, and punters latched on to that as he was smashed off the boards, but George Baker had an absolutely torrid day yesterday at Lingfield and had a nightmare here. He missed the break, which I wasn’t too concerned with as this horses tends to anyway, but thereafter Baker could not get into a challenging position, even when the perfect gap opened up for him in the run-in. Baker did report this horse was reluctant to race. 2pt loss.
My horse to take from the race: ABSOLUTE BLAST. She has put in a career best with this performance to continue her upward trajectory. Oisin Murphy reported that she hung right on the run in, possibly feeling the effects of the step-up in trip, but I’d expect her to come on well for it as she looked a likely winner in the final furlong.
KEMPTON 15:35 - Theatre Guide 0.75pt Each Way @ 12.00, Three Musketeers 1pt Win @ 9.00 PadsTheFish
Three Musketeers appeared to be going perfectly well for a long portion of the race, until his ability to jump a fence completely abandoned him just as the race was developing. He ran on to finish 6th. Theatre Guide travelled very well, jumped like a stag (even over the fallen Cocktails at Dawn!), but unfortunately got tired at the final fence and was never going to go with the eventual winner, who was absurdly well handicapped. He stayed on for welcome place money. 0.32pt win.
My horse to take from the race: DOUBLE SHUFFLE. He made a notably blunder 3 out but still kept on to give the winner a slight scare. I think he has ran at least 5lbs better than his current handicap mark, which is particularly interesting as his trainer has said he’ll go straight to the Grand National now and he will run off the same weight as current favourite Vieux Lion Rouge, so if he can sort his jumping out he could similarly well handicapped.
We got absolutely no luck yesterday. Two selections missed the break and three forgot how to jump, all of which cost us badly. The one selection who gave us a run for our money, Theatre Guide, gave us place returns.
